Shoppers in Thornbury are warned to be on guard while shopping

Category: General | April 10, 2009

Shoppers in Thornbury have been warned to be on their guard after a case of distraction theft last Saturday. An elderly woman in her eighties was out shopping in the town and was followed back home. When the woman got back to her house, this person got into the passenger seat and asked her for directions to London.

The elderly lady gave her the directions but realised after he had left that her credit cards were missing. Some time later, the woman received a phone call from a man claiming to be from her bank, who wanted to check her PIN.

PC Neil Whyman, from Thornbury Police Station, has stated that even though such incidents are a rarity, it is important for people to be vigilant while they are shopping. He has also advised the shoppers to keep their bags and purses close to themselves in a secure manner. Whyman has also asked the shoppers to not leave any of their items unattended or on display. He has stated that all female drivers should ensure that the doors to their cars are locked in a secure manner.

The police are trying to trace the pilferer who is identified as a white man, with a foreign accent, 5ft 7ins tall, slim build, in his mid-20s with short, dark hair and wearing a jacket, collar and tie.

South Hinksey home raided by burglars

Category: Burglary News | April 9, 2009

The police have been appealing to witnesses or anyone who has information to come forward after a home on Manor Road, South Hinksey was burgled.

According to the police report, the house was burgled on Tuesday between 3:15pm and 7pm after thieves forced their entry into the house through a rear window in the ground floor. The thieves stole a camera, television, laptop, and jewellery.

PC Maria Morrisey of Abingdon police station said the police are working hard to tackle such crimes and know that burglaries can be distressing for the victims and their families. The police have also appealed to all residents to come forward and help catch the person or persons responsible for the crimes.

Most burglaries are done by thieves who are opportunistic and in most cases they do not have to use excess force to enter the home. They make their way into the home either through an open window or door. If the doors of the home are not securely locked, then thieves can manage to open it by using an implement through the letterbox.

If you are worried about the protection of your precious family heirloom and other valuables, consider getting a fire burglar rated home safe. They provide sufficient protection for your precious belongings and offer you the much needed peace of mind.

Sefton police arrest 39 thieves

Category: Burglary News | April 8, 2009

Thirty-nine people were arrested in Sefton one Friday night as a part of the Merseyside wide policing operation. A jaw dropping 338 arrests were made in all, across five hundred police stations in Sefton, Liverpool, Knowsley, Wirral and St Helens. All this action happened between 7am on Friday and 3am on Saturday.

Theft, burglary and acquisitive crime were the focus of this operation in Sefton where two men were arrested as they were suspected of breaking into a house in the Copy Lane area of Bootle in order to steal a plasma TV.

Assistant Chief Constable, Helen King commented that these were excellent results and showed that the Merseyside police are committed to taking strict action against the perpetrators of crimes in their area. She also added the people who commit violent crimes and serious offences like burglary and robbery do it to profit at the cost of making someone else’s life miserable.

King also stated that, by placing the right amount of officers at the right places at the right time, this has been a major deterrent to criminal activities in the area.

With such crime levels, a good safe would really go a long way to protecting your precious belongings from being stolen in an act of theft.

Security safe: An excellent long-term investment

Category: Security Safes | April 7, 2009

A locking cabinet can keep your documents and belongings safe to a degree. These cabinets however, will not be able to protect your belongings from theft or the damage caused to them due to a fire breaking out. Only a well-made security safe can provide protection to your valuables and documents. Homes and businesses both require security safes to eliminate the chance of their belongings and documents getting stolen or burnt in a fire.

The way most home robberies are planned is classified as a “smash and grab” operation. The intruder would usually try to stay in the house for only as long as three to five minutes. Within this time, they will take anything they find. If the thief spends more time than this inside the house, the chances of getting caught increase drastically.

A normal cabinet in such a case is very easy to break into. A security safe, on the other hand, just by its mere presence, would deter burglars. This makes security safes an excellent option for safeguarding documents and valuables at work and at home. Home safes are a deterrent from robbery and provide the necessary security from fire and climate changes.

A wide range of security safes are now available for you to choose from. A security safe is an important addition to your home or office security system and buying a security safe is a very good long term investment and an excellent way to keep your valuables safe and secure.
