Drug addict sentenced for burglaries

Luke Water, a 19-year-old drug addict, with a ‘shocking history of offending’ has been sentenced to youth custody of 22 months.

To feed his drug habits, Water from Waleys Close, Luton used to break into Luton area homes. He also raided a home just 2 days before he was sentenced for other offences of theft.

In Luton Crown Court, Water admitted to committing 2 burglaries, attempted burglary and the possession of a bladed article. Water also pleaded guilty to charges of going equipped for theft, resisting arrest and failure to surrender to police custody.

Judge Michael Kay QC, noted that Water has a rather shocking history of offending and since the age of 13 has appeared on 41 separate occasions in various courts. He further added that however bad the background might have been, the protection of society is important and there must be a substantial custodial sentence.

Since the age of 12, Water has been involved with drugs and started crack cocaine and heroin from the age of 14.
