After seven break-ins were recorded in Bury over one weekend, police have warned residents in the area to be more careful with their homes and belongings. Apparently, the spate of home burglaries was caused due to insecure windows and doors. In one particular incident, the burglars got into a home using a key which was hidden in an insecure porch and they stole a wallet and laptop.
Sean Hogan, Chief Inspector of Bury Police, said that it was extremely important that Bury home dwellers understood the importance of securing their doors and windows. This is especially a concern during the summer. He said that a number of the burglaries took place on account of homes not being locked.
He added to residents that whether they are at home or not, keeping the home secure is vital. Using a timer along with a radio or light to give the impression that there is someone inside is a good idea if residents are leaving the home unattended. He also said to ask trusted neighbours to keep a watch over the property in the homeowner’s absence.
Installing various security devices like security alarms and security safes can also help a great deal. Security alarms, which have been activated, will probably stop burglars from entering a property and security safes can protect important valuables from getting stolen.
