Supporters hail man held by police in burglar stabbing case as ‘hero’

Category: Burglary News | March 19, 2009

A man from Old Basford, Nottingham, has been released by the police on bail following massive support by members of the public, who hailed him as a hero.

The man was quizzed by the police over the fatal stabbing of the suspected burglar 17-year old Tyler Juett, who was killed after he was allegedly caught breaking into a house. The teenage burglar was rushed to the Queen’s Medical Center but succumbed to the stab wounds.

According to neighbours, Juett was confronted inside the home of Jacqueline Johnson, a 46-year-old foster carer and her three grown-up children. Two men in their early twenties, believed to be relatives of Ms Johnson and four youths were later arrested by the police in connection with the stabbing incident.

Later, it emerged that a 14-year-old boy – an accomplice of Juett - was stabbed in the incident but did not have any serious injuries.

The police are treating the death of Juett as murder and have released the 21-year-old without any charges, while the 22-year-old has been freed on bail. The Johnson family has received massive public support online, with one website hailing the householder’s right to defend his home.

Neighbourhoods across the UK have seen an increase in the number of burglaries and many householders are on edge. An effective way to deter burglars and protect precious belongings such as heirlooms, jewellery etc is to keep them secure in a home safe.
